India vs Ireland: MS Dhoni turns water boy, carries drinks and kit bags for Indian batsmen - see pictures
MS Dhoni wasn't the part of playing XI in the second T20I but the former Indian skipper marked his presence in the game when he turned into a water boy and served drinks to the Indian batsmen during the first innings of the game.
It was a big surprise to see MS Dhoni being rested for the second T20I against Ireland as skipper Virat Kohli walked the talk and gave a chance to Dinesh Karthik, who also kept wickets. Looking at the events before the start of the match, there were indications that Karthik will play but him replacing Dhoni was never expected.
While there were no signs of Dhoni on the field after he was rested, he marked his presence when the former Indian skipper came out to serve drinks to Suresh Raina and Manish Pandey during India’s batting. He also carried a kit bag on his shoulders. Dhoni carrying drinks and kit bag to the field was one of the best moments of the match, even though he was not a part of the playing XI. Here are few pictures of him carrying drinks and kit bag:
This wasn’t a sight which hasn’t been seen before as Dhoni performed the duties of water boy during a practice match against Bangladesh during the ICC Champions Trophy last year. Prior to that, he was also seen doing the same job in 2012 during tri-series against Australia and Sri Lanka in Australia in 2012.
Dhoni, in all likeliness, will be back in the playing XI for the series against England, replacing Karthik. KL Rahul, who was also given a chance in the second T20I, is expected to retain his place for the England series and Manish Pandey might walk out of the playing XI.
In other changes, Shikhar Dhawan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah, who were rested for the second T20I, are also expected to get their place back in the playing XI. Meanwhile, India won the second T20I by a record margin of 143 runs. Gary Wilson-led could not stand in front of the visitors and lost both the games by huge margins.
