Is Rowan Atkinson dead? Death hoax about Mr Bean actor resurfaces.

Comedy legend and actor Rowan Atkinson has once again been subject to a death hoax, with several fake news posts about the Mr Bean actor’s death appearing online.

In July 2018, the death hoax that looks like a breaking news story with a link seemingly to Fox News suggests that the actor died in a car crash after attempting to do a stunt.

The fake post shows a picture of Atkinson along with the caption ‘RIP 1955-2017’ and a ‘play’ button inviting users to play the video.

However, this fake post is the one that first surfaced back in 2017 and, according to Hoax Slayer, it’s a scam that will infect your computer with a virus.

According to the site, clicking on the post will lead to a security message popping up and telling you that your computer has been locked because it has become infected with a virus.

You will then be directed to call a ‘support number’, which is actually the scammers’ number who will try to get you to reveal your credit card information.

The hoax debunking site also says that the scammers may try and get you to download software that will let them take control of the device.

Despite the fact that the bogus post says 2017 rather than 2018, it seems many people believed it to be true.

A Facebook page called R.I.P Mr Bean is also suggesting that the actor died on July 17, 2018.
Who is Rowan Atkinson?

Rowan Atkinson is the actor and comedian most famous for his roles in Mr Bean and Blackadder.

He was born on January 6, 1955, and is very much alive. A graduate of Newcastle University and Oxford, Atkinson first rose to prominence as part of The Oxford Revue group at the 1976 Edinburgh Fringe. Video playing bottom right.

ITV offered Atkinson his own show, but he turned them down, instead electing to work with university classmate Richard Curtis—who would later go on to write Four Weddings and a Funeral and Love, Actually—on the Not the Nine O’Clock News sketch show.

The series ran from 1979 to 1982, when Atkinson first appeared in the now iconic role of Blackadder.

While his exploits as the Machiavellian Edmund Blackadder entertained British audiences during the 1980s, his performance as the hapless Mr Bean became an international hit and even spawned an animated cartoon spin-off.

Atkinson has also starred in a number of high-profile films such as Lion King and Johnny English, with the third instalment of the latter being released in October 2018.

Rowan Atkinson is not dead, though he is probably a bit tired given that this is the third time he’s been a victim of a celebrity death hoax.

According to Snopes, the first instance of a Rowan Atkinson death hoax can be traced back to July 2016 when a ‘BBC’ breaking news alert suggested that the actor died at the age of 58 (in reality Atkinson would have been 61) after committing suicide.
